'A book about humanity as much as sport. It’s like sitting at the kitchen table with your best mate and he’s pouring his heart out – about his life, his loss, his triumphs and his faults … and the love that got him through. Honest, generous, and most of all, courageous.' Markus Zusak
'I couldn’t put this down. Mat shares his story with so much honesty and openness. I was overcome with emotion and such deep respect for Mat and the person, father and role model that he is.' Sally Obermeder
He's known as a NRL and rugby union star, one of the toughest and most popular competitors on Australian Survivor, and an all-round good bloke. Now, in an evocative, unvarnished and courageous new memoir called A Father’s Son, Mat Rogers opens up about family, football and forgiveness.
On Wednesday 16 November, join Rogers in conversation with Malcolm Knox, former literary editor and award-winning cricket writer of the Sydney Morning Herald, and author of multiple books including his most recent novel, Bluebird.
Copies of A Father’s Son will be available for purchase at the venue through Roaring Stories, with Rogers signing copies after the discussion.
Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm or earlier for a 7pm start at White Bay Beer Co. Seating is unallocated – another reason to arrive early to secure an optimal spot!
The bar opens 6pm and closes at 9.30pm on the night of the event. Settle in and grab a drink before or after, with an incredible range of locally brewed beers and other beverages to enjoy. There’ll be plenty of delicious food available too thanks to a special event caterer Agape, so why not make a full evening of it and come for dinner too? You can order before or after the event.
If you miss out on a ticket, you can still watch the event as it is livestreamed from the Roaring Stories Facebook page (accessible on the Home page and from the Live tab). A recording will also be available to view later as an upload on the Roaring Stories YouTube channel.
