Former Google engineer turned design ethicist Dr James Williams discusses how big tech companies manipulate and persuade us in the attention economy.
Dr James Williams is a former Google engineer turned design ethicist who argues that freedom of attention is central to human life. He believes that we need to gain a deeper understanding of what’s at stake in our interactions with the digital world so we can protect our attention and its commercialisation.
Williams is the author of, Stand Out of Our Light: Freedom and Resistance in the Attention Economy, and a co-founder of the Time Well Spent campaign. He attained his PhD at the Oxford Internet Institute, where he is currently a Research Fellow.
